Ingredients

  • 1 cup Mashed Sweet Potato Ensure it's plain and cooked until soft.
  • ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce Look for brands with no added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
  • 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour or Oat Flour for gluten-sensitive dogs

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Wire rack
  • Medium Bowl
  • Cookie Cutter (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the mashed sweet potato, unsweetened applesauce, and whole wheat flour (or oat flour).
1 cup Mashed Sweet Potato, ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour
  3. Stir the ingredients together until a cohesive dough forms. It should be firm enough to handle but still a little sticky. If it’s too dry, add a tiny bit more applesauce; if too wet, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  4. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn out the dough. Roll the dough to about ½ inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter of your choice (or simply cut into squares or rectangles) to shape the treats.
  5. Place the shaped treats onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats feel firm to the touch.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This step is crucial to ensure they are fully solidified and safe for your dog to eat.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 2-3 months.
