Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the 2 cups of filtered water, green tea bags (or loose leaf), ground turmeric, ground ginger, and black pepper.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Turn off the heat immediately before boiling to preserve the delicate compounds in the green tea.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat, cover, and let steep for 5 minutes. Do not oversteep the green tea.
- Remove the tea bags or strain the loose leaves. Stir in the honey or maple syrup until fully dissolved while the liquid is still warm.
- Allow the concentrate to cool to room temperature for about 10 minutes. Alternatively, place it in the refrigerator to chill faster.
- To serve, divide the ice cubes between two tall glasses. Pour half of the cooled turmeric green tea concentrate into each glass, then top with 1 cup of cold water.
- Stir gently, taste, and adjust sweetness if necessary. Garnish each glass with a slice of lemon or lime before serving immediately.
Notes
To maximize anti-inflammatory benefits, grating fresh turmeric root and ginger root instead of using powdered spices is highly recommended. Strain the tea well if using fresh roots. This concentrate can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
