Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for grain-sensitive pups)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 ripe banana mashed
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • Cookie Cutters (optional)
  • Knife (optional)
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour (or oat flour) and cinnamon (if using).
1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  3. In a separate bowl, mash the ripe banana until smooth. Add the unsweetened applesauce, xylitol-free peanut butter, and egg. Whisk until well combined and creamy.
1 ripe banana, 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 cup natural peanut butter, 1 egg
  4. Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir with a spoon or spatula until a thick dough forms. The dough should be firm enough to handle.
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and your hands. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite cookie cutters or a knife to cut out shapes. Alternatively, you can roll small portions into balls and flatten them for simpler treats.
  6. Place the shaped treats onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each one. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the treats are firm to the touch.
  7. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Ensure they are fully cooled before serving to your dog.

Notes

Ensure peanut butter is xylitol-free. Consult a veterinarian for specific dietary advice.
