  • 1/2 cup cooked and finely chopped lean ground turkey or chicken Provides essential protein for muscle development and energy.
  • 1/4 cup finely grated apple seeds and core removed. Offers fiber for digestive health and a touch of natural sweetness. Rich in Vitamin C.
  • 1/4 cup finely grated carrot Excellent source of beta-carotene and fiber, promoting healthy vision and digestion.
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened, plain applesauce Adds moisture and a hint of natural flavor, containing fiber.
  • 1 tablespoon whole wheat flour or oat flour Acts as a binder to help form the “bone” shape and provides carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warming spice that can aid digestion and provides antioxidants.

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Medium Bowl
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked and mashed sweet potatoes, cooked and finely chopped lean ground turkey or chicken, finely grated apple, finely grated carrot, unsweetened applesauce, whole wheat flour (or oat flour), and ground cinnamon.
1 cup cooked and mashed sweet potatoes, 1/2 cup cooked and finely chopped lean ground turkey or chicken, 1/4 cup finely grated apple, 1/4 cup finely grated carrot, 1 tablespoon unsweetened, plain applesauce, 1 tablespoon whole wheat flour or oat flour, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until a cohesive dough forms. It should be firm enough to handle but still slightly moist.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a log shape, about 1-inch thick and 3-4 inches long, resembling a small bone.
  5. Place the formed “bones” onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the treats are firm to the touch and lightly browned on the edges. They should feel “hard” enough to last longer than a soft treat.
  7. Allow the Apple Carrot Hard Bones for Dogs to cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.
