Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides a sturdy base and essential carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Offers natural sweetness, fiber for digestion, and vitamins A and C for immune support.
  • ½ cup Fresh Cranberries Packed with antioxidants and known for their potential to support urinary tract health. Ensure they are fresh and not sweetened.
  • ¼ cup Water or as needed: Helps bind the dough to the right consistency.
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Flaxseed A fantastic source of Omega-3 fatty acids, promoting healthy skin and a shiny coat, as well as fiber.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Adds a warming flavor and is known for its potential anti-inflammatory properties (ensure it's pure cinnamon, not a mix).

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, ground flaxseed, and cinnamon.
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour, 1 tablespoon Ground Flaxseed, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  3. Add the unsweetened applesauce and fresh cranberries to the dry ingredients.
1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, ½ cup Fresh Cranberries
  4. Gradually add water, about a tablespoon at a time, mixing until a firm dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 2 minutes until smooth.
    ¼ cup Water
  5. Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut the dough into strips resembling dental sticks, roughly 4-5 inches long and ½ inch wide.
  6. Place the sticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the sticks are firm and dry to the touch.
  7. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This ensures they are safe and hardened for chewing.
