Decoration

  • edible lace, bows, ribbons
  • fondant or gum paste flowers
  • pearl sprinkles or sugar beads
  • baby bottle or pacifier topper optional, for baby theme

Method
 

  1. Bake two round cake layers and cool completely. Stack with buttercream filling and chill before shaping.
  2. Carve the cake into a simple dress shape – narrow at the top and wider at the base. Use scraps for sleeves or ruffles if desired.
  3. Apply a thin crumb coat of buttercream. Chill to set.
  4. Cover with pastel fondant. Decorate with edible lace, bows, frills, and sugar embellishments.
  5. Finish by piping borders and placing a baby-themed topper if desired.

Notes

Feel free to personalize the cake colors and decorations to match the occasion. Strawberry sponge or lemon cake with cream cheese or vanilla buttercream are both great flavor bases.
