Method
- Set your oven to 200°F (95°C) to ensure slow, even drying of the apples.
- Carefully wash the apples. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer (with caution!), slice the apples into very thin rounds, about 1/8-inch thick. Be sure to remove the core and any seeds, as seeds can contain small amounts of cyanide.2 Medium Apples (e.g., Fuji, Honeycrisp, Gala)
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer, making sure they don't overlap.
- If using, lightly sprinkle a tiny pinch of cinnamon over the apple slices. Remember, less is more with cinnamon for dogs.1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon (Optional)
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 2 to 4 hours, or until the apple slices are dried and slightly chewy, but not brittle. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your slices and your oven.
- Once baked, remove the apple slices from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet or a wire rack. They will become slightly crisper as they cool.
