Ingredients

Apples
  • 2 Medium Apples (e.g., Fuji, Honeycrisp, Gala) Washed and cored.
Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon (Optional) Ground. Use sparingly. Ensure it's pure cinnamon without any added sugars or artificial sweeteners.

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Sharp knife or mandoline slicer
  • Wire rack
  • Airtight container

Method

  1. Set your oven to 200°F (95°C) to ensure slow, even drying of the apples.
  2. Carefully wash the apples. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer (with caution!), slice the apples into very thin rounds, about 1/8-inch thick. Be sure to remove the core and any seeds, as seeds can contain small amounts of cyanide.

  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer, making sure they don't overlap.
  4. If using, lightly sprinkle a tiny pinch of cinnamon over the apple slices. Remember, less is more with cinnamon for dogs.
    1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon (Optional)
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 2 to 4 hours, or until the apple slices are dried and slightly chewy, but not brittle. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your slices and your oven.
  6. Once baked, remove the apple slices from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet or a wire rack. They will become slightly crisper as they cool.
