  • 1/2 ripe banana mashed
  • 1/4 cup mixed berries fresh or frozen, such as blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup optional, adjust to taste
  • Pinch cinnamon optional

Equipment

  • Mason jar or container
  • Bowl

  1. In a medium-sized bowl or directly in your mason jar or container, add the rolled oats and chia seeds. If you're using a pinch of cinnamon, add it now and give everything a quick stir to ensure the chia seeds are evenly distributed.

  2. To the bowl or jar, add the mashed banana. Pour in your chosen milk, and if you're opting for a touch of sweetness, add the honey or maple syrup now. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and there are no clumps of oats or chia seeds sticking together.
1/2 ripe banana mashed, 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  3. Gently fold in your mixed berries. If using frozen berries, they will thaw overnight and release their juices, adding lovely color and flavor. If using fresh berries, you can gently press some of them into the oat mixture to ensure they're submerged.
    1/4 cup mixed berries
  4. Cover your container tightly with a lid or plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid, creating a wonderfully thick and creamy texture.
  5. When ready to eat, retrieve your Banana Berry Overnight Oats from the refrigerator. Give it a good stir. If it's too thick for your liking, you can add a splash more milk to reach your desired consistency. Top with fresh berries, a slice of banana, a sprinkle of nuts, or a dollop of yogurt for an extra delightful breakfast experience.

Notes

Best stored in an airtight container or mason jar in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Can be frozen for up to 1 month, though texture may be softer. Can be gently reheated if preferred.
