Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups vanilla ice cream good quality
  • 0.5 cup whole milk contributes to a smoother, richer texture
  • 1 ripe banana peeled and sliced (fresh or frozen for a thicker shake)
  • 2 tablespoons banana cream pie filling store-bought or homemade, this is the secret ingredient
  • 1 tablespoon whipped cream for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon crushed graham crackers for garnish
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract optional, for extra flavor boost

Equipment

  • Blender

Method

  1. If you are using a fresh banana, peel and slice it into roughly coin-sized pieces. For an extra thick and frosty milkshake, it's highly recommended to use a frozen banana. Simply peel and slice a ripe banana and freeze the slices for at least 2-3 hours or until firm.
    1 ripe banana
  2. In the pitcher of your blender, add the 1 ½ cups of good quality vanilla ice cream. This forms the rich and creamy foundation of our milkshake.
    1.5 cups vanilla ice cream
  3. Pour in the ½ cup of whole milk. Using whole milk contributes to a smoother, richer texture than lower-fat alternatives.
    0.5 cup whole milk
  4. Add your prepared banana slices (fresh or frozen) to the blender.
    1 ripe banana
  5. Spoon in the 2 tablespoons of banana cream pie filling. This is the secret ingredient that truly elevates this milkshake to its namesake status, infusing it with that distinct banana cream pie essence.
2 tablespoons banana cream pie filling
  6. If you desire a more pronounced vanilla note or if your pie filling isn't very sweet, you can add the ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract at this stage.
    0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  7. Secure the lid on your blender and blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. Start blending on a lower speed if using frozen banana pieces to help break them down, then increase to high. You’re looking for a thick, milkshake consistency that coats the sides of your blender. If it's too thick, add another tablespoon of milk at a time and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
    0.5 cup whole milk
  8. Pour the Banana Cream Pie Milkshake into a tall glass.
  9. Top generously with a dollop of whipped cream. Sprinkle the crushed graham crackers over the whipped cream for that signature pie crust crunch and visual appeal. Serve immediately and savor every sip!
1 tablespoon whipped cream, 1 teaspoon crushed graham crackers

Notes

Leftover Banana Cream Pie Milkshake is best enjoyed immediately as its texture can degrade upon storage. However, if you find yourself with extra, you can store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1-2 hours. To enjoy, either scoop like soft-serve or let sit and re-blend.
