Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Cream of Rice instant hot cereal
  • 1 cup Water or Milk (dairy or non-dairy) Use less liquid for a thicker consistency
  • 1/2 scoop Vanilla or Unflavored Protein Powder Whey, casein, or plant-based
Berry Blend
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Mixed Berries Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • 1 teaspoon Chia Seeds (Optional) For added fiber and thickness
Sweetener & Flavor (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Maple Syrup or Honey Adjust to taste

Method

Instructions
  1. Combine the Cream of Rice and water/milk in a small microwave-safe saucepan or bowl.
  2. Cook according to package directions. On the stovetop, bring to a simmer, stirring constantly for 2-3 minutes until thickened. In the microwave, cook on high for 60-90 seconds, stirring halfway.
  3. While the Cream of Rice is cooking, blend the frozen mixed berries until smooth with only 1-2 tablespoons of water or milk, creating a thick berry puree. Set aside.
  4. Once the Cream of Rice is cooked, remove from heat. Immediately whisk in the protein powder until completely smooth and there are no lumps. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash more liquid.
  5. Gently fold about one-third of the berry puree into the protein cream of rice mixture to create a marbled effect. If desired, stir in sweetener and chia seeds now.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a serving bowl. Top with the remaining berry puree, and any desired fresh berries or toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the best texture, wait 30 seconds after cooking before whisking in the protein powder. This prevents the powder from seizing up. If you prefer a thinner consistency, mix the protein powder with a small amount of cold liquid *before* whisking it into the hot cereal.
