Ingredients

  • 1 bag (11.5 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups Chex cereal (rice, corn, or a mix)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed into a powder
  • 0.25 cup freeze-dried raspberries, crushed into a powder
  • white chocolate candy melts (optional, for drizzling)

Equipment

  • Large microwave-safe bowl
  • Large baking sheet or shallow baking pan
  • Parchment paper or wax paper
  • Rubber spatula
  • Large resealable plastic bag

Method

  1. Line a large baking sheet or a shallow baking pan with parchment paper or wax paper. This will be used to spread out the puppy chow once it's coated, allowing it to cool and set.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted. Be careful not to overheat. This usually takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes total.
1 bag (11.5 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 cup creamy peanut butter, 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt into the melted chocolate mixture until thoroughly combined. This step adds depth and balances the sweetness of the chocolate.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 0.25 teaspoon salt
  4. Gently add the Chex cereal to the bowl with the melted chocolate mixture. Using a rubber spatula, carefully fold the cereal into the chocolate mixture until it is evenly coated. Be gentle to avoid crushing the cereal.
6 cups Chex cereal (rice, corn, or a mix)
  5. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the powdered sugar, crushed freeze-dried strawberries, and crushed freeze-dried raspberries. Seal the bag tightly.
1 cup powdered sugar, 0.5 cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed into a powder, 0.25 cup freeze-dried raspberries, crushed into a powder
  6. Add the chocolate-coated cereal to the plastic bag with the powdered sugar and freeze-dried fruit mixture. Seal the bag again and shake it well until the cereal is evenly coated with the powdery mixture. Shake frequently to ensure an even coating and prevent clumps.
  7. Pour the coated Cherry Cheesecake Puppy Chow onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it out into a single layer to cool. This will help it set and prevent it from clumping together too much.
  8. If you'd like an extra touch of cheesecake flavor and visual appeal, melt some white chocolate candy melts according to package directions. Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the cooled puppy chow. Allow the drizzle to set completely before breaking apart any large clumps.
