Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped nuts optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Wire cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  4. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm!

Notes

For a chewier texture, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
Use high-quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
