- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm!
