Chilling Time 30 minutes
Course: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for melting, optional)

Equipment

  • Baking Sheets
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. This will prevent the brownie balls from sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This process incorporates air, which will contribute to the texture of your brownie balls.
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, 2 cups granulated sugar
  3. Beat in the four large eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract. The mixture might look slightly curdled at this stage, which is perfectly normal.
4 large eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. This ensures even distribution of the leavening agents and flavor.
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed or by hand until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough brownie balls.
  6. Gently fold in the 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. These will add pockets of delicious, melted chocolate throughout your brownie balls.
    1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough makes it easier to handle and roll into balls, preventing it from being too sticky.
  8. Once chilled, scoop out portions of the dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll them into compact balls. Place the rolled balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each to prevent them from touching.
  9. If you desire a more polished look or an extra chocolatey punch, gently melt some additional semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can then dip the tops of the brownie balls into the melted chocolate, or drizzle it over them. For an even more decadent experience, you can melt the entire batch of chocolate and dip each ball.
    1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  10. Allow the brownie balls to set up at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate them for a quicker firming. Once set, they are ready to be enjoyed!
