- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. This creates the base for your delicious cobbler crust.1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pour the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. The batter will be thick.1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Spoon and spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. It doesn't need to be perfectly smooth.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the additional 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and the additional 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. If using, stir in the cinnamon.1/4 cup additional unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 cup additional granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Evenly sprinkle this dry topping mixture over the batter in the baking dish. This will form the rich topping.
- Carefully and slowly pour the 1/2 cup of boiling water over the entire surface of the cobbler. You’ll notice the topping mixture slightly dissolving.1/2 cup boiling water
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is set and the edges are firm. The center will remain slightly gooey, which is exactly what you want!
- Let the Chocolate Cobbler cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. This allows the luscious sauce to thicken.
Notes
For storing this delightful Chocolate Cobbler, allow it to cool completely before covering. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, individual portions can be gently warmed in the microwave for 30-60 seconds until heated through. For a whole cobbler, you can reheat it in a 300°F (150°C) oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through. If you prefer, you can also freeze individual servings or the entire cobbler (once completely cooled) in airtight containers for up to 2 months. Thaw frozen cobbler overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
