Ingredients

Fresh Strawberries
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries washed and thoroughly dried (about 12-15 large strawberries)
Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate chips for variety)
Oil (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil optional, for a smoother consistency
Optional Toppings
  • chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios, walnuts)
  • sprinkles
  • shredded coconut
  • sea salt flakes
  • crushed freeze-dried raspberries

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Saucepan (for double boiler)
  • Heatproof bowl (for double boiler)
  • - Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper or wax paper
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Ensure your strawberries are completely dry. Any moisture can cause the chocolate to seize or make it difficult to coat. Gently pat them dry with paper towels, paying attention to the area around the stem. Leave the stems on for easy handling and a more attractive presentation.
    1 pound fresh strawberries
  2. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. If using, add the coconut oil or vegetable oil. Microwave on 50% power for 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate using a double boiler: place the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of gently simmering water (making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn't touch the water). Stir until melted and smooth.
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
  3. Holding a strawberry by its stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, rotating it to coat about two-thirds to three-quarters of the berry. Allow any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
1 pound fresh strawberries, 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  4. Carefully place the chocolate-dipped strawberry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. The parchment paper prevents sticking and makes for easy cleanup.
    1 pound fresh strawberries
  5. While the chocolate is still wet, immediately sprinkle your desired toppings over the chocolate coating. This could include chopped nuts, colorful sprinkles, toasted coconut flakes, or a pinch of sea salt for a sweet and salty contrast. Work quickly before the chocolate begins to set.
chopped nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, sea salt flakes, crushed freeze-dried raspberries
  6. Once all strawberries are dipped and topped (if desired), place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 15-20 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm. This will ensure a clean snap when you bite into them.

Notes

Store chocolate-dipped strawberries in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Place parchment paper between layers to prevent them from sticking together. They are best enjoyed within 1-2 days for optimal freshness and texture. Freezing is not ideal for best texture but possible.
