Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides complex carbohydrates for energy and fiber for healthy digestion.
  • ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce Adds natural sweetness, moisture, and dietary fiber, aiding in digestion.
  • ¼ cup Dog-Safe Peanut Butter A good source of protein and healthy fats for energy and a shiny coat. Ensure it is xylitol-free.
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon Offers potential anti-inflammatory benefits and a warm, inviting aroma. (Ensure it's pure cinnamon, not a cinnamon-sugar blend).
  • 1 Egg Acts as a binder and provides protein and essential nutrients for overall health.
  • 2 tablespoons Water or enough to form a dough. Helps to achieve the right dough consistency for easy handling.

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Medium Bowl
  • Separate bowl
  • Whisk
  • - Knife
  • Round Cookie Cutter
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and cinnamon until well combined.
1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour, ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then whisk in the applesauce and dog-safe peanut butter until smooth.
1 Egg, ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce, ¼ cup Dog-Safe Peanut Butter
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time if the dough is too dry, or a little more flour if it’s too sticky.
    2 tablespoons Water
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface. Roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a knife or a small round cookie cutter to cut out small circles. For a true cinnamon roll look, you can roll out a thin sheet, spread a tiny bit of peanut butter, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon, roll it up tightly, and then slice it into small pinwheels.
  6. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cinnamon roll dog treats for dogs cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
