Ingredients

Tea Ingredients
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 medium Apple Cored and thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Fuji recommended)
  • 3 inch Fresh Ginger Root Peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon Or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup Adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Allspice Berries (Optional)
  • 1 strip Lemon Zest Peeled with a vegetable peeler, avoid white pith

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sliced apple, sliced ginger root, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries (if using), and lemon zest strip.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the flavors to fully infuse.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs or a tea pitcher, discarding the solids.
  5. Stir in the maple syrup until fully dissolved. Taste and add more syrup if a sweeter tea is desired.
  6. Serve immediately. Garnish each serving with a fresh thin slice of apple or an extra sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.

Notes

For a stronger ginger kick, slightly bruise the ginger slices with the back of a spoon before adding them to the water. This tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and is delicious served warm or cold over ice.
