Ingredients

Spiced Tea Base
  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 Black Tea Bags Use strong black tea like Assam or English Breakfast
  • 1 large Orange Zest only; reserve slices for garnish
  • 3 Whole Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 Star Anise Pods
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or Maple Syrup Adjust to taste

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, orange zest, whole cloves, cinnamon stick, and star anise pods.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes to allow the spices to fully infuse the water.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Carefully add the black tea bags to the spiced water.
  4. Cover the saucepan and steep the tea for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on desired strength. Do not over-steep to avoid bitterness.
  5. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs to remove all spices and zest. Discard the solids.
  6. Stir in the honey or maple syrup until fully dissolved. Garnish each mug with a fresh orange slice or a dash of cinnamon, and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, use the peel from a naval or blood orange. If you prefer a richer color, use 3 tea bags instead of 2. This tea keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be gently reheated.
