Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats old-fashioned oats are best for texture
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy, such as almond, soy, or oat milk
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt or dairy-free alternative
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey, agave nectar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar For the "Swirl" (Optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon For the "Swirl" (Optional)

Equipment

  • Medium-sized jar or airtight container
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. In a medium-sized jar or airtight container, add the rolled oats, chia seeds, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir everything together to ensure the spices and seeds are evenly distributed throughout the oats.
1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 tablespoon chia seeds, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, Pinch salt
  2. Pour in the milk, Greek yogurt, maple syrup (or your chosen sweetener), and vanilla extract. Whisk gently until all the ingredients are well combined and there are no dry pockets of oats or chia seeds.
1 cup milk, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  3. If you're aiming for that authentic cinnamon roll experience, prepare the swirl. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and the additional 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon.
1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  4. For the swirl effect, dollop about half of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the oat mixture in your jar. Then, gently stir the mixture a few times with a spoon or knife, creating streaks of the cinnamon-sugar blend throughout the oats. Be careful not to overmix; you want visible swirls. If you're not making the swirl, simply proceed to the next step.
  5. Securely cover the jar or container with a lid or plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
  6. In the morning, give your Creamy Cinnamon Roll Overnight Oats a good stir. If the consistency is thicker than you prefer, you can add a splash more milk to reach your desired creaminess.
    1 cup milk
