Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Shredded Carrot
  • 1/4 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese (low-fat, unsalted)
  • 1 Large Egg Large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Water (or as needed)

Equipment

  • Dog-bone shaped cookie cutters
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Medium Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the unsweetened apple sauce, shredded carrot, shredded cheddar cheese, and the large egg until well combined.
1/4 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce, 1/4 cup Shredded Carrot, 1/4 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese (low-fat, unsalted), 1 Large Egg Large Egg
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and rolled oats to the wet ingredients. Stir until a thick, crumbly dough begins to form.
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  4. If the dough is too dry to come together, add water, one tablespoon at a time, until it forms a manageable, slightly sticky dough.
    2 tablespoons Water
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and your rolling pin. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  6. Carefully place the cut-out dough shapes onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the treats are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.
