- Ensure your strawberries are completely clean and, most importantly, dry. Any moisture will cause the chocolate to seize, resulting in a less smooth coating. Gently pat each strawberry dry with paper towels. Remove the green hulls if you prefer a cleaner, more elegant presentation, or leave them on for a rustic charm.1 pound fresh strawberries
- Place the finely chopped dark chocolate into a heatproof bowl. You can melt the chocolate using one of two methods: Double Boiler Method: Set the bowl over a saucepan filled with about an inch of simmering water. Ensure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Stir the chocolate frequently until it is completely melted and smooth. Microwave Method: Microwave the chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval. Continue this process until the chocolate is mostly melted, then stir until it is fully smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as this can make it seize.8 ounces good quality dark chocolate
- If you are using coconut oil or vegetable oil, stir it into the melted chocolate until it is fully incorporated. This helps to create a silkier, slightly thinner consistency that makes dipping and drizzling easier, leading to a shinier finish.8 ounces good quality dark chocolate, 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- Hold a strawberry by its stem or hull. Dip it into the melted dark chocolate, rotating it to coat about two-thirds or three-quarters of the berry. Let any excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.1 pound fresh strawberries, 8 ounces good quality dark chocolate
- Carefully place the dipped strawberry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This prevents the chocolate from sticking and allows it to set properly.1 pound fresh strawberries
- Continue dipping the remaining strawberries. While the chocolate is still wet, you can add optional decorative elements. A sprinkle of sea salt flakes, mini chocolate chips, shredded coconut, or finely chopped nuts can add an extra layer of flavor and visual appeal. For an extra touch of elegance, you can drizzle extra melted chocolate (milk or white chocolate work well for contrast) over the dipped strawberries using a fork or a piping bag.1 pound fresh strawberries, 8 ounces good quality dark chocolate
- Once all strawberries are dipped and decorated, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes, or until the chocolate has hardened completely. This ensures a firm coating.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Freezing is possible but may alter texture.
