Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Mashed and pureed
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats Lightly processed
  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter (xylitol-free) Smooth or crunchy
  • 2 Tablespoons Water To help bind the ingredients together into a workable dough.

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Medium Bowl
  • Cookie Cutter
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the unsweetened applesauce and xylitol-free peanut butter until well combined.
1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1/4 cup Peanut Butter (xylitol-free)
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and rolled oats to the wet ingredients. Stir until a thick, workable dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more whole wheat flour, one tablespoon at a time. If it’s too dry, add a touch more water, a teaspoon at a time.
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats, 2 Tablespoons Water
  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to shape the dough into your desired treat shapes. Alternatively, you can simply roll small balls or flatten them by hand.
  5. Place the shaped treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Ensure they are fully cooled before serving to your dog.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. Freeze for up to 2-3 months.
Serve in moderation as supplemental treats. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines.
