Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
  • 1/4 cup cherry tomatoes halved or quartered
  • salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • red pepper flakes Optional, for a little heat

Equipment

  • Oven-safe baking dish
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • Hand mixer or whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small oven-safe baking dish (an 8x8 inch square dish or a small cast-iron skillet works perfectly). This prevents the dip from sticking and ensures an even bake.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until it's smooth and creamy. You can use a hand mixer or a sturdy whisk for this. Ensure there are no lumps for the smoothest dip consistency.
    1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  3. Add the sour cream and mayonnaise to the cream cheese. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and you have a smooth, homogeneous base. This combination creates the rich, velvety texture that makes this dip so irresistible.
1/2 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  4. Stir in the minced garlic. Then, add the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until these cheeses are evenly distributed throughout the cream cheese mixture. The cheeses will melt and create a delightful, gooey texture when baked.
1 clove garlic, 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  5. Gently fold in the chopped fresh basil and the halved or quartered cherry tomatoes. Be careful not to overmix at this stage; you want to see distinct pieces of basil and tomato distributed throughout the dip. This step introduces the fresh, vibrant flavors of Caprese.
1/4 cup fresh basil, 1/4 cup cherry tomatoes
  6. Season the mixture with salt and freshly ground black pepper to your taste. If you like a little heat, now is the time to sprinkle in a pinch of red pepper flakes. Spoon the entire mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dip is heated through, the cheeses are melted and bubbly, and the edges are lightly golden brown. Keep an eye on it during the last few minutes to prevent over-browning.
  8. Once baked, carefully remove the dish from the oven. Let the Easy Caprese Dip rest for about 5 minutes before serving. This allows it to set slightly and prevents it from being too piping hot. Serve warm with your favorite dippers.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes or in the microwave on medium power. Unbaked dip can be frozen for up to 2 months.
