- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, thoroughly mash the ripe banana with a fork until it’s smooth. Stir in the natural peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and the whisked egg until well combined.1 ripe banana, 1/2 cup natural, xylitol-free peanut butter, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 egg
- Gradually add the whole wheat flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a firm dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time. If it seems too dry, add a teaspoon of water or applesauce.1 cup whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the dough into strips approximately 1/2-inch wide and 4-6 inches long, resembling chew sticks.
- Place the chew sticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 20-25 minutes. The chew sticks should be firm to the touch and lightly golden brown around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and let the chew sticks cool completely on a wire rack before offering them to your dog. They will crisp up as they cool.
Notes
Ensure peanut butter is xylitol-free. Consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your dog's diet.
