Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides a good source of carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Peanut Butter A fantastic source of protein and healthy fats, plus dogs love the taste! Ensure it does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • 1 cup Fresh or Frozen Blueberries Packed with antioxidants and vitamins for immune support and overall health. No preparation needed, they are ready to be mashed or blended.
  • 1/2 cup Water Helps bind the ingredients together to form a dough.
  • 1 large Egg Acts as a binder and adds protein. No preparation needed.

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Wire rack
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour.
    2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  3. In a separate bowl, mash the fresh or frozen blueberries until they are mostly broken down. If using frozen, they may need a little extra mashing.
1 cup Fresh or Frozen Blueberries
  4. Add the unsweetened peanut butter, mashed blueberries, water, and egg to the bowl with the flour.
1 cup Unsweetened Peanut Butter, 1 cup Fresh or Frozen Blueberries, 1/2 cup Water, 1 large Egg
  5. Stir the ingredients together until a firm dough begins to form. You may need to use your hands to bring it all together. If the dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon more flour at a time. If too dry, add a teaspoon more water at a time.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite dog-shaped cookie cutters or a knife to cut out the treats.
  7. Place the cut treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This is crucial to ensure they are fully hardened and safe for storage.

Notes

Store cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days, or in a freezer-safe bag/container in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
Serve as a special treat or training reward, not as a complete meal.
