Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked)
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Plain Yogurt (unsweetened, plain) Ensure it's plain and unsweetened, as artificial sweeteners like xylitol are toxic to dogs.
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter (xylitol-free, natural) Crucially, ensure the peanut butter is free of xylitol, a highly toxic artificial sweetener for dogs.
  • 1 tablespoon Honey (optional, for added sweetness and binding)
  • 1/4 cup Water (or more as needed to reach desired consistency)

Equipment

  • Waffle maker
  • Medium Bowl
  • Separate bowl
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease if necessary.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and rolled oats.
    1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked)
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, xylitol-free peanut butter, and optional honey until well combined.
1 Egg, 1/4 cup Plain Yogurt (unsweetened, plain), 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter (xylitol-free, natural), 1 tablespoon Honey (optional, for added sweetness and binding)
  4. Mix wet and dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. The batter will be thick.
  5. Adjust consistency: Gradually add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring until you reach a thick but pourable waffle batter consistency. It should coat the back of a spoon.
1/4 cup Water (or more as needed to reach desired consistency)
  6. Cook the waffles: Pour approximately 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter onto your preheated waffle maker, depending on its size. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through. The edges should be slightly crisp, and the center should feel cooked when gently pressed.
  7. Cool: Carefully remove the waffle from the maker and place it on a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  8. Break or cut: Once cooled, you can break the waffles into smaller pieces or cut them into bite-sized squares for your dog.

Notes

These treats are designed as a supplemental treat or topper for your dog's regular kibble. Always ensure your dog has access to fresh water. Consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods, especially if your dog has allergies or health conditions.
