Method
- Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease if necessary.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and rolled oats.1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked)
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, xylitol-free peanut butter, and optional honey until well combined.1 Egg, 1/4 cup Plain Yogurt (unsweetened, plain), 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter (xylitol-free, natural), 1 tablespoon Honey (optional, for added sweetness and binding)
- Mix wet and dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. The batter will be thick.
- Adjust consistency: Gradually add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring until you reach a thick but pourable waffle batter consistency. It should coat the back of a spoon.1/4 cup Water (or more as needed to reach desired consistency)
- Cook the waffles: Pour approximately 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter onto your preheated waffle maker, depending on its size. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through. The edges should be slightly crisp, and the center should feel cooked when gently pressed.
- Cool: Carefully remove the waffle from the maker and place it on a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- Break or cut: Once cooled, you can break the waffles into smaller pieces or cut them into bite-sized squares for your dog.
