Ingredients

  • 1-2 shots espresso, brewed fresh and hot (or 1/4 cup very strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 cup whole milk (or milk of your choice: almond, oat, soy)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional for topping
  • Whipped cream
  • extra cinnamon

Equipment

  • Small Saucepan
  • Mug
  • Frother (optional)

Method

  1. Brew 1-2 shots (approximately 1-2 ounces) of fresh, hot espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use about 1/4 cup of very strongly brewed coffee. Set aside.
1-2 shots espresso, brewed fresh and hot (or 1/4 cup very strong brewed coffee)
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Stir constantly until the brown sugar dissolves and small bubbles begin to form around the edges of the pan, creating a simple syrup. Be careful not to let it burn.
2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. This step adds an extra layer of comforting aroma and flavor to your brown sugar syrup.
    1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  4. In another small saucepan or in the microwave, gently warm your 1 cup of milk until it's hot but not boiling. If you have a frother, you can froth the milk at this stage for a creamier texture, but it's not essential for this easy recipe.
1 cup whole milk (or milk of your choice: almond, oat, soy)
  5. Pour the warm brown sugar syrup into your favorite mug. Add the brewed espresso or strong coffee to the mug and stir well to combine with the syrup.

1 cup whole milk (or milk of your choice: almond, oat, soy)
  7. If desired, top your Easy Starbucks Brown Sugar Latte with a swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkle of extra cinnamon for that authentic coffee shop presentation and an extra burst of flavor.
