Ingredients

  • 1 (15-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) pre-baked chocolate pie crust (or graham cracker crust)
  • 1 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate, for topping
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), for topping (optional)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting (optional, for lace effect)
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate, melted, for drizzling (optional, for lace effect)

Equipment

  • Electric mixer
  • Spatula
  • Piping Bag (optional)
  • Double Boiler or Microwave (for white chocolate)

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter and sweetened condensed milk. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes. Gradually add the melted and slightly cooled semi-sweet chocolate, beating until well incorporated and the mixture is uniformly chocolatey. Stir in the vanilla extract.
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened, 1 (15-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  2. Pour the chocolate filling evenly into the pre-baked chocolate pie crust. Spread the filling with a spatula to create a smooth, even layer.

  3. Sprinkle the chopped semi-sweet chocolate evenly over the surface of the chocolate filling. If using, scatter the chopped nuts over the chocolate chips.
1 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate, for topping, 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), for topping
  4. For a more pronounced football look, you can arrange some of the chocolate chips into a football shape within the dessert.
1 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate, for topping
  5. Once the dessert has chilled and set, you can add a lace effect to mimic a football. For this, gently melt the white chocolate (use a double boiler or microwave in short intervals) until smooth and pourable. Using a piping bag with a small tip or a ziplock bag with a tiny corner snipped off, carefully drizzle thin lines of melted white chocolate onto the surface of the dessert to resemble the laces of a football. If desired, you can also dust lightly with powdered sugar before adding the white chocolate for a chalky effect.
1/4 cup white chocolate, melted, for drizzling, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
  6. Cover the dessert loosely with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm. This chilling time is crucial for the flavors to meld and for the dessert to set properly for slicing.
  7. Once chilled and set, carefully slice the Football Chocolate Layered Dessert into wedges. Serve cold and enjoy the cheers!

Notes

Store any leftover dessert in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Best served chilled.
