  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water 110°F
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • For the Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • For the Toppings:
  • 2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 20 –25 slices of pepperoni optional
  • 1 cup sautéed mushrooms bell peppers, or onions (optional)

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Dough:

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add flour, cornmeal, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours.
  5. Make the Sauce:
  6. Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Sauté garlic until fragrant.
  7. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Assemble the Pizza:
  9. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  10. Roll out the dough and press it into a greased deep-dish pan, going up the sides.
  11. Layer mozzarella cheese on the dough first.
  12. Add desired toppings like pepperoni and veggies.
  13. Pour the prepared tomato sauce over the top.
  14. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese evenly.
  15. Bake and Serve:
  16. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  17. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot!

Notes

For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for the best results.
