- If using fresh green beans, wash them thoroughly and trim off the ends. If using frozen, simply ensure they are thawed. Chop the green beans into very small pieces, about the size of your thumbnail. You want them finely minced for easy incorporation into the dough.1 cup Fresh or Frozen Green Beans
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped green beans, unsweetened applesauce, and olive oil. Mix well until these ingredients are thoroughly combined.1 cup Fresh or Frozen Green Beans, 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- Add the whole wheat flour (or oat flour) and the egg to the wet ingredients. Stir everything together until a sticky dough forms. Don’t worry if it’s a little wet – that’s normal!1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour (or Oat Flour for grain-free), 1 Egg
- Lightly flour your hands or a clean surface. Take small portions of the dough (about a teaspoon) and roll them into small balls or simply flatten them into bite-sized discs. You can also press the dough thinly onto a baking sheet using a spatula.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the formed crunchies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they have a little space between them. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown and firm to the touch. For extra crispiness, you can turn off the oven and leave them inside to cool down further.
- Once baked, remove the crunchies from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your dog. This helps them to firm up and become truly crunchy.
