Ingredients

Aromatic Tea Base
  • 1 cup Assam Black Tea Leaves (or preferred robust black tea) Ensure leaves are high quality
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Orange Peel Finely chopped or zest
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Ginger Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg Freshly grated preferred
  • 1/4 teaspoon Star Anise Powder Use sparingly to avoid overpowering

Method

Instructions
  1. Gather all dry ingredients: black tea leaves, dried orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, ginger powder, nutmeg, and star anise powder.
  2. If using whole cloves, gently crush them slightly in a mortar and pestle to release more aroma, being careful not to pulverize them completely.
  3. In a large, non-reactive bowl, combine the black tea leaves and all the dried spices and orange peel.
  4. Gently toss the mixture together until the spices are evenly distributed throughout the tea leaves. Be careful not to crush the tea too aggressively.
  5. Transfer the blend into an airtight container, such as a decorative tin or glass jar. Allow the blend to 'rest' for at least 24 hours before brewing to let the flavors meld together.
  6. To serve: Use 1 heaping teaspoon of the blend per 8 oz cup of boiling water. Steep for 4-5 minutes, then strain and enjoy immediately.

Notes

This blend stores well in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. Adjust the amount of star anise or cloves to your personal preference. For an extra festive touch, add a few dried cranberries to the mixture.
