Instructions
- Gather all dry ingredients: black tea leaves, dried orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, ginger powder, nutmeg, and star anise powder.
- If using whole cloves, gently crush them slightly in a mortar and pestle to release more aroma, being careful not to pulverize them completely.
- In a large, non-reactive bowl, combine the black tea leaves and all the dried spices and orange peel.
- Gently toss the mixture together until the spices are evenly distributed throughout the tea leaves. Be careful not to crush the tea too aggressively.
- Transfer the blend into an airtight container, such as a decorative tin or glass jar. Allow the blend to 'rest' for at least 24 hours before brewing to let the flavors meld together.
- To serve: Use 1 heaping teaspoon of the blend per 8 oz cup of boiling water. Steep for 4-5 minutes, then strain and enjoy immediately.
Notes
This blend stores well in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. Adjust the amount of star anise or cloves to your personal preference. For an extra festive touch, add a few dried cranberries to the mixture.
