Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Adds moisture and natural sweetness, a good source of fiber.
  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter A tasty binder and source of protein and healthy fats. Crucially, ensure it does NOT contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • 2 Large Eggs Bind the ingredients and contribute protein and essential nutrients.
  • 1/4 cup Water or as needed, to achieve the desired dough consistency.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Adds flavor and offers potential antioxidant benefits.
  • Optional Dog-safe food coloring for festive colors (e.g., a tiny drop of pink or purple for the dough)

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Easter-themed Cookie Cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, xylitol-free peanut butter, and eggs. Whisk them together until thoroughly blended. If using food coloring, add a tiny drop now and mix well.
1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1/4 cup Peanut Butter, 2 Large Eggs, Optional Dog-safe food coloring
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and cinnamon.
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough begins to form. Add water, one tablespoon at a time, if needed, until the dough is firm but not sticky.
    1/4 cup Water
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for a minute or two until smooth. Roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  6. Using Easter-themed cookie cutters (like bunnies, eggs, or carrots), cut out your treats.
  7. Place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the treats are firm to the touch.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.
