Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, plain non-fat Greek yogurt, and cooked and mashed sweet potato. Stir until well blended.1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce (plain), 1/4 cup Plain, Non-Fat Greek Yogurt, 1/4 cup Cooked and Mashed Sweet Potato
- Add the rolled oats, ground flaxseed meal, and finely chopped cooked lean chicken breast (or turkey breast) to the wet ingredients.1 cup Rolled Oats (old-fashioned), 1 tablespoon Flaxseed Meal (ground), 1/4 cup Finely Chopped Cooked Lean Chicken Breast (or Turkey Breast)
- Stir everything together until a thick, cohesive dough forms. It should be slightly sticky but manageable. If it seems too wet, add a tablespoon of oats at a time. If too dry, add a teaspoon of water or unsweetened applesauce.1 cup Rolled Oats (old-fashioned), 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce (plain)
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface (using oat flour or a small amount of extra rolled oats) to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite small cookie cutters to shape the treats, or simply roll small portions into bite-sized balls and flatten them slightly.
- Place the shaped treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. For a crispier treat, you can turn off the oven after 15 minutes and leave them inside with the door ajar to cool completely.
- Let the Homemade Low Fat Dog Treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your dog.
