  • 1/2 cup rolled oats Cooked.
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce Diced or pureed. Ensure it's free from xylitol.
  • 1 tablespoon pure peanut butter Xylitol-free. Smooth or crunchy.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Ground. Dog-safe.
  • 1/2 cup plain, cooked chicken or turkey breast Shredded or finely diced.
  • 1/4 cup water Optional, for consistency. Added as needed.

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • Medium Bowl
  • Pie dish
  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the 1 cup of mashed pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup cooked rolled oats, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, and 1 tablespoon of xylitol-free peanut butter. Mix until well combined.
1 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree (not pie filling), 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 tablespoon pure peanut butter
  3. Stir in the 1/2 cup of shredded or finely diced cooked chicken or turkey. Add the 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly to distribute the ingredients evenly.
1/2 cup plain, cooked chicken or turkey breast, 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  4. If the mixture seems too dry and crumbly, gradually add up to 1/4 cup of water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until a cohesive dough-like consistency is achieved. You want it to hold together when pressed.
    1/4 cup water
  5. Grease a small pie dish or an 8x8 inch baking pan lightly with a pet-safe oil. Spoon the mixture into the prepared dish, pressing it down evenly with the back of a spoon to form a crust of about 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned and the center is firm to the touch. The texture should be soft but hold its shape.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving. This is crucial to prevent burns and allow the pie to set properly.

Notes

Serve as a topper or a special treat. Consult your vet for specific feeding guidelines. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
