Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Whole Wheat Flour Sifted for a finer texture
  • 0.5 cup Rolled Oats Uncooked, can be lightly pulsed in a food processor if preferred
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Pure Honey Ensure it's pure, unprocessed honey
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Applesauce Make sure it’s plain applesauce with no added sugars or xylitol
  • 2 large Large Eggs Lightly beaten
  • 0.25 cup Water Filtered or distilled water is recommended

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sifted whole wheat flour and rolled oats. Whisk them together to ensure they are well-incorporated.
1.5 cups Whole Wheat Flour, 0.5 cup Rolled Oats
  3. To the dry ingredients, add the ground cinnamon. Stir gently to distribute the spice evenly throughout the mixture.
    1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the pure honey, unsweetened applesauce, and lightly beaten eggs. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
0.25 cup Pure Honey, 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 large Large Eggs
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon or spatula until a dough begins to form.
  6. Slowly add the water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. You are aiming for a firm, but pliable dough that is not too sticky. You may not need all of the water.
    0.25 cup Water
  7. On a lightly floured surface (using a little extra whole wheat flour), roll out the dough to about ½ inch thickness.
    1.5 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  8. Using your favorite dog-bone-shaped cookie cutters or a small round cutter, cut out the cookies. Re-roll scraps as needed.
  9. Place the cut-out cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cookies are firm to the touch. Baking time will vary slightly depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.
  11. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Ensure they are fully cooled before serving or storing.

Notes
