Servings: 2 lobster tails
Course: Appetizer, Main Course

Ingredients

  • 2-4 fresh or frozen lobster tails approximately 4-6 ounces each, thawed if frozen
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 clove garlic minced (about 1 teaspoon)
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika for a subtle depth of flavor
  • Pinch cayenne pepper optional, for a slight kick
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for serving (optional)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Kitchen Shears
  • Small Microwave-Safe Bowl
  • Basting brush
  • Instant-Read Thermometer (optional)

Method

  1. If using frozen lobster tails, ensure they are fully thawed. Carefully cut a slit down the center of the top of the hard shell (the curved side) with kitchen shears, from the base of the tail to just before the fan. Be careful not to cut through the meat. Gently pull the meat up through the opening, freeing it from the shell but leaving it attached at the base of the tail. Lay the meat over the top of the shell. This is often referred to as "butterflying" the lobster tail, which allows for even cooking and a beautiful presentation. Pat the lobster meat dry with paper towels.

  2. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. This ensures the air fryer is at the optimal temperature for cooking, leading to a perfectly seared exterior and juicy interior.
  3. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, minced garlic, fresh lemon juice, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.

  4. Place the prepared lobster tails, meat-side up, on a clean working surface. Generously brush the garlic butter mixture over the exposed lobster meat. Make sure to coat the meat evenly for maximum flavor. Season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your preference.

  5. Carefully place the butterflied and basted lobster tails into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Ensure there is enough space between each tail for proper air circulation; you may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  6. Air fry for 5-8 minutes, or until the lobster meat is opaque and cooked through. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of your lobster tails and the specific air fryer model. To check for doneness, an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat should register 140°F (60°C) to 145°F (63°C). The meat should be firm, yet still tender and juicy, with no gray or translucent spots.
  7. Once cooked, carefully remove the Juicy Air Fryer Lobster Tails from the air fryer basket. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately with extra lemon wedges and any remaining garlic butter sauce on the side for dipping. These are fantastic as a stand-alone appetizer or as part of a main course with your favorite sides like roasted asparagus or wild rice pilaf.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 3-5 minutes, or in a pan with butter. Do not microwave.
