Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (Virgin, Organic) Provides moisture and has antimicrobial properties to keep paws healthy.
  • 1 tablespoon Shea Butter (Unrefined) Deeply moisturizes dry, cracked paws and forms a protective barrier.
  • 1 teaspoon Beeswax Pellets (Pure) Helps bind the balm together, creating a solid consistency and adding a protective layer.
  • 1 teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil Offers vitamins E and A, which are excellent for skin hydration and repair.
  • 2-3 drops Lavender Essential Oil (Therapeutic Grade, specifically for dogs) Known for its calming properties and can help soothe minor irritations. Ensure you use only dog-safe, therapeutic-grade essential oils and always dilute properly.

Equipment

  • Double boiler or heatproof bowl over simmering water
  • Small container (lip balm tube, tin, or shallow jar)

Method

  1. In a double boiler or a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water, gently melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax pellets. Stir occasionally until everything is liquid and well combined. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (Virgin, Organic), 1 tablespoon Shea Butter (Unrefined), 1 teaspoon Beeswax Pellets (Pure)
  2. Once completely melted, remove the bowl from the heat. Stir in the sweet almond oil. If using, carefully add the 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil and stir well to distribute evenly.
1 teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil, 2-3 drops Lavender Essential Oil (Therapeutic Grade, specifically for dogs)
  3. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes until it’s no longer steaming hot but still liquid. Carefully pour the balm into a clean, empty lip balm tube, a small tin, or a shallow jar.
  4. Allow the balm to cool completely at room temperature for at least 2–3 hours, or until it has solidified. Once firm, cap the container and store it in a cool, dry place.

Notes

Proper storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat ensures longevity for several months. Avoid storing in a hot car. No reheating needed; warms to paw contact. For very cold environments, warm slightly in hands before application.
