Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a medium mixing bowl, thoroughly combine the mashed sweet potato, unsweetened peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and the large egg until smooth and well incorporated.1/2 cup mashed sweet potato (cooked), 1/2 cup unsweetened, xylitol-free peanut butter, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 large egg
- Gradually add the whole wheat flour, oats, and ground flaxseed to the wet ingredients. Mix everything together until a thick, dough-like consistency forms. It should be easy to handle but not overly sticky.1/2 cup oats (rolled or quick oats), 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter). You can also flatten them slightly with a fork for a classic cookie look, or use small cookie cutters for fun shapes.
- Place the formed treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before offering them to your dog. This is crucial for texture and preventing any burning from hot treats.
Notes
