Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Adds natural sweetness, fiber, and moisture, supporting healthy digestion. Ensure it contains no xylitol.
  • ½ cup Natural Peanut Butter A good source of protein and healthy fats, offering a delicious flavor dogs adore. Always use peanut butter free of xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • 2 Large Eggs Bind the ingredients together and provide essential protein and nutrients.
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Adds a warming flavor and has potential anti-inflammatory properties (use sparingly as per veterinarian's advice for any health concerns).

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the unsweetened applesauce, natural peanut butter (xylitol-free!), and eggs until well combined and smooth.
1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, ½ cup Natural Peanut Butter, 2 Large Eggs
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and ground cinnamon to the wet ingredients. Mix until a stiff dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
1 ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour, ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  4. Lightly flour a clean surface and your rolling pin. Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick. Use your favorite dog-bone cookie cutters (or any cookie cutters you have on hand) to cut out your treats.
  5. Place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This usually takes about 1-2 hours.

Notes

Ensure peanut butter and applesauce are xylitol-free. Consult veterinarian for any health concerns or if introducing new treats.
