Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cooked Plain Pumpkin Puree (Ensure it's 100% pumpkin, not pie filling)
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Pureed Applesauce (No added sugar or spices)
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil, Melted
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Parsley, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Mint Leaves, Finely Chopped
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour (or a gluten-free alternative like oat flour)
  • 2 Large Eggs

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie Cutters (optional)
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked plain pumpkin puree, unsweetened applesauce, and melted coconut oil. Stir these wet ingredients together until they are well incorporated.
1 cup Cooked Plain Pumpkin Puree, 1/2 cup Unsweetened Pureed Applesauce, 1/4 cup Coconut Oil, Melted
  3. Add the finely chopped fresh parsley and mint leaves to the wet mixture. Stir again to distribute the herbs evenly throughout the base.
2 Tablespoons Fresh Parsley, Finely Chopped, 1 Tablespoon Fresh Mint Leaves, Finely Chopped
  4. Crack the two large eggs into the bowl and whisk them in. Ensure the eggs are fully blended with the other ingredients.
    2 Large Eggs
  5. Gradually add the whole wheat flour (or your chosen alternative) to the wet ingredients, mixing as you go. You'll want to add enough flour to form a firm but slightly sticky dough. You may not need all of the flour, or you might need a little more depending on the humidity.
    2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  7. Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness. You can use cookie cutters to create fun shapes or simply cut the dough into small squares or rectangles.
  8. Place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave a little space between each treat.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. The exact baking time will depend on the thickness of your treats.
  10. Turn off the oven and leave the treats inside with the door slightly ajar for an additional 10-15 minutes to help them dry out and become crisp. This step helps to achieve a good cookie-like texture.
  11. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.

Notes

Store cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 1-2 months.
