Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rolled Oats (Old-Fashioned Oats)
  • 1/2 cup Plain Pumpkin Puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-free) Crucially, ensure it is xylitol-free, as xylitol is highly toxic to dogs.
  • 1 tablespoon Water or more, as needed

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Baking sheet or plate
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Microwave (optional, for warming)

Method

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add the 1 cup of rolled oats. Stir briefly to ensure they are evenly distributed.
1 cup Rolled Oats (Old-Fashioned Oats)
  2. Add the 1/2 cup of plain pumpkin puree, 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce, and 2 tablespoons of xylitol-free natural peanut butter to the bowl with the oats.
1/2 cup Plain Pumpkin Puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling), 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-free)
  3. Stir all ingredients together with a spoon or spatula until a thick, cohesive dough begins to form. It should be moist but not overly sticky.
  4. If the mixture seems too dry and crumbly, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time, mixing well after each addition, until the dough holds together when pressed.
    1 tablespoon Water
  5. Take small portions of the dough and roll them into bite-sized balls, about 1 inch in diameter. You can also flatten them slightly or use mini cookie cutters if you prefer.
  6. Place the rolled treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet or plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow them to firm up.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months. Always consult your veterinarian before introducing new treats to your dog's diet.
