Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy) almond, soy, or oat milk
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon sweetener maple syrup, honey, or agave
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt

Equipment

  • Jar or container with lid
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Stirring utensil

Method

  1. In a clean jar or container, add the rolled oats, chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Stir these dry ingredients together gently to ensure they are evenly distributed. This step prevents clumping later on.
1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant), 2 tablespoons chia seeds, Pinch salt
  2. Pour in the milk of your choice. Follow with the sweetener and vanilla extract.
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy), 1 tablespoon sweetener, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  3. Mix everything together very well. It's crucial to ensure the chia seeds are fully submerged in the liquid and that no dry oat pockets remain. Stir for at least 30 seconds, scraping down the sides of the jar to incorporate everything. The chia seeds will start to absorb the liquid and help thicken the mixture.
  4. Securely place a lid on your jar or cover your container tightly. Place the jar in the refrigerator. Allow it to chill for at least 4 hours, but ideally overnight. This overnight period is essential for the oats to soften and the chia seeds to work their magic, creating that signature creamy texture.
  5. In the morning, open your jar. Give the oats a good stir. If the mixture is too thick for your liking, you can add a splash more milk to reach your desired consistency. It's now ready to be enjoyed cold, straight from the jar!
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)

Notes

Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Can be frozen, though texture may change.
