  • 1 cup cooked lean ground turkey Drained off any excess grease
  • ½ cup cooked and mashed sweet potato
  • ¼ cup cooked and mashed peas
  • 2 tablespoons plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt Ensure it contains no artificial sweeteners or xylitol
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened pumpkin puree not pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened applesauce ensure no xylitol
  • Pinch ground cinnamon (optional)

Method
 

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook one cup of lean ground turkey until it is thoroughly browned and no pink remains. Drain off any excess grease.

  2. While the turkey cooks, steam or boil half a cup of peas until tender, then mash them. Similarly, cook and mash a quarter cup of sweet potato until soft and easily mashable.

  3. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked and drained ground turkey, mashed sweet potato, and mashed peas.

  4. Stir in two tablespoons of plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt, one tablespoon of unsweetened pumpkin puree, and one teaspoon of unsweetened applesauce.

  5. Blend all ingredients together until well combined. You can use a fork to mash any larger pieces or a food processor for a smoother consistency, depending on your dog's preference.
  6. Generously stuff the mixture into a Kong toy, ensuring it is packed tightly to make it more challenging for your dog to extract.
  7. Place the stuffed Kong toys on a flat surface in your freezer and freeze for at least 4-6 hours, or until completely solid.

Notes

Always consult with your veterinarian before introducing any new food item into your dog's diet. Ensure all ingredients are dog-safe and free from toxic substances like xylitol, onions, garlic, avocado, grapes, and raisins. Never reheat homemade dog food in a microwave.
