Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour A good source of complex carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Provides natural sweetness, fiber for digestion, and essential vitamins.
  • 1/2 cup Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-Free) A great source of protein and healthy fats. Crucially, ensure it is xylitol-free, as this artificial sweetener is toxic to dogs.
  • 2 Large Eggs Offer protein and act as a natural binder for the treats.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda Helps the treats rise and achieve a pleasant texture.
  • 1/4 cup Water or as needed. To achieve the desired dough consistency.

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the unsweetened applesauce, natural peanut butter, and eggs until well combined and smooth.
1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1/2 cup Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-Free), 2 Large Eggs
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and baking soda to the wet ingredients. Stir until a soft dough begins to form.
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  4. If the dough is too dry, add water by the tablespoon, mixing after each addition, until it’s a pliable consistency that’s not too sticky.
    1/4 cup Water
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out. Roll it out to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Use your favorite cookie cutters (dog bone shapes are popular!) to cut out the treats.
  6. Place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  7. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
