Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour Provides a good source of carbohydrates for energy.
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked) Offers fiber for healthy digestion and sustained energy release.
  • 1/2 cup All-Natural Peanut Butter (xylitol-free) A great source of protein and healthy fats, plus it makes for irresistible flavor! Crucial Note: Ensure your peanut butter is completely free of xylitol, as this artificial sweetener is highly toxic to dogs.
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Adds moisture and natural sweetness, also contributing to fiber intake for digestion.
  • 1 Large Egg Binds the ingredients together and provides essential protein and nutrients.
  • 1/4 cup Water (or as needed) Helps achieve the correct dough consistency.

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Spoon or hands
  • Rolling Pin
  • Dog bone-shaped cookie cutter (or any shape)
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats. Whisk them together until well combined.
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked)
  3. Add the all-natural peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and the large egg to the dry ingredients.
1/2 cup All-Natural Peanut Butter (xylitol-free), 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1 Large Egg
  4. Begin to mix the ingredients with a spoon or your hands. Gradually add the water, a tablespoon at a time, until a firm, yet pliable dough forms. You want the dough to be easy to handle without being too sticky.
    1/4 cup Water
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Using a dog bone-shaped cookie cutter (or any shape you prefer), cut out the treats.
  7. Carefully place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. The cooling process will further crisp them up.
  9. Allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.

Notes

Store cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Freeze for up to 2-3 months in a freezer-safe bag or container.
