Ingredients

Peanut Butter Sandwiched Dog Treats
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (Unsweetened)
  • 1/4 cup Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-Free) Crucially, ensure it does NOT contain xylitol.
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1/4 cup Water or as needed

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and rolled oats until well combined.
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (Unsweetened)
  3. Add the xylitol-free natural peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and egg to the dry ingredients.
1/4 cup Natural Peanut Butter (Xylitol-Free), 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Applesauce, 1 large Egg
  4. Begin to mix the ingredients with a spoon or spatula. Gradually add water, a tablespoon at a time, until a firm but not sticky dough forms. You may not need all the water, or you might need a tiny bit more, depending on humidity.
    1/4 cup Water
  5. For easier handling, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 15–20 minutes.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use your favorite small cookie cutters (bone shapes are popular!) to cut out the treats.
  7. Carefully place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the treats cool completely on the baking sheet or a wire rack before serving to your dog. This ensures they are fully hardened and safe to eat.

Notes

Store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. For longer preservation, freeze for up to 2-3 months. Reheat gently in microwave if stiff, or let come to room temperature.
