Ingredients
  

  • 12 cups Chex cereal (rice, corn, or chocolate) depending on preference, can use rice, corn, or a mix of chocolate Chex for a darker, richer base
  • 1 cup Valentine's Day colored candy melts pink, white, or a mix
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon pink food coloring gel is best for vibrant color
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup Valentine's Day themed sprinkles hearts, nonpareils, jimmies
Optional: Valentine's Day candies
  • 1/2 cup Valentine's Day candies like conversation hearts, pink M&Ms, or white chocolate chips

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the 12 cups of your chosen Chex cereal.

  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the 1 cup of Valentine's Day colored candy melts, the 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter, and the 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.

  3. Once the peanut butter and candy melt mixture is smooth, stir in the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Then, carefully add the 1 teaspoon of pink food coloring. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is a uniform, beautiful pink.

  4. Pour the melted pink mixture over the Chex cereal in the large bowl. Gently stir with a spatula or large spoon, ensuring that every piece of cereal is evenly coated.

  5. In a large Ziploc bag or a separate clean bowl, place the 2 cups of powdered sugar. Add the pink-coated cereal to the bag. Seal the bag tightly (or cover the bowl) and shake vigorously until the cereal is thoroughly coated in powdered sugar.

  6. Spread the powdered sugar-coated cereal out onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. While still slightly sticky, generously sprinkle the 1/2 cup of Valentine's Day themed sprinkles over the cereal. If you’re using any optional Valentine's Day candies, now is the time to scatter them amongst the cereal too.

  7. Allow the Pink Valentine Puppy Chow Mix to cool completely on the parchment-lined baking sheet, about 15-20 minutes. Once cooled, break apart any larger clumps, and your festive treat is ready to be served or packaged!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 weeks. Can be frozen for 2-3 months.
