Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the pure canned pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce, and the large egg. Whisk them together until thoroughly blended into a smooth, consistent mixture.1/2 cup pure canned pumpkin (not pie filling), 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 large egg
- Gradually add the rolled oats, whole wheat flour (or oat flour), and ground flaxseed meal to the wet ingredients. Stir everything together until a thick dough forms. It should be firm enough to handle but not overly dry or crumbly.1 cup rolled oats (uncooked), 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free), 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal (ground flaxseed)
- On a lightly floured surface or between two sheets of parchment paper, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a knife or a pizza cutter to cut the dough into small, bite-sized strips resembling snack sticks.
- Carefully transfer the cut snack sticks onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the snack sticks are firm to the touch. They will continue to firm up as they cool.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the Pumpkin Oatmeal Dog Snack Sticks cool completely on the baking sheet or a wire rack before serving them to your furry friend.
