Instructions
- Prepare the Blackberry Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the blackberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cook for about 10 minutes, gently crushing the berries with the back of a spoon.
- Strain the syrup: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids. Set the syrup aside to cool slightly.
- Brew the tea: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the tea bags (or loose leaf tea in an infuser). Steep for 5-7 minutes for a strong brew. Remove the tea bags/infuser.
- Combine and chill: Pour the hot, brewed tea into a large pitcher. Stir in the cooled blackberry simple syrup and the fresh lemon juice. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour until thoroughly chilled.
- Serve: Fill tall glasses generously with ice. Pour the chilled blackberry iced tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with fresh blackberries and a lemon wheel, if desired.
- Note: Any leftover syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
For an even deeper blackberry flavor, muddle a few fresh berries at the bottom of each glass before filling with ice and tea.
