Ingredients

  • 1 cup Natural Peanut Butter (xylitol-free)
  • 1 ½ cups Rolled Oats (uncooked)
  • ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • ¼ cup Water (or unsalted chicken broth)
  • 1 cup Puffed Rice Cereal (plain, unsweetened)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Baking sheet or flat tray
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mini cookie cutters (optional)

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the natural peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and honey. Stir vigorously with a spoon or spatula until thoroughly mixed and smooth. This usually takes about 1-2 minutes.
1 cup Natural Peanut Butter (xylitol-free), ½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 tablespoons Honey
  2. Add the rolled oats to the wet ingredients. Gradually mix in the puffed rice cereal. Continue stirring until all ingredients are evenly distributed, ensuring no dry pockets remain. This step should take approximately 2-3 minutes.
1 ½ cups Rolled Oats (uncooked), 1 cup Puffed Rice Cereal (plain, unsweetened)
  3. Slowly pour in the water (or unsalted chicken broth) while continuing to mix. Add just enough liquid to bind the mixture together into a workable, slightly sticky dough. You may not need the full ¼ cup. Mix for another 1-2 minutes until the dough holds its shape when pressed.
¼ cup Water (or unsalted chicken broth)
  4. Line a baking sheet or flat tray with parchment paper. Scoop portions of the dough (about 1-2 tablespoons per treat, depending on your dog's size) and gently press them into desired shapes. You can roll them into balls, press them into small patties, or use mini cookie cutters. Ensure they are not too large for your dog to handle. Let them firm up for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature.

Notes
